HIKE:
Join us as we head to Balboa Park-Florida Canyon for our May hike along Balboa Park Trail #12. The 2.4-mile trail goes through not-often-seen natural areas of Balboa Park in Florida Canyon. Balboa Park has plenty of "tame" places to walk, but in the park's lesser-known eastern section, centered on Florida Canyon, you can find about 4 miles of "wild" multiuse trails. At first glance, the natural vegetation of Florida Canyon may appear scruffy and desiccated by comparison with the lushly (but artificially) landscaped acres of Balboa Park proper. However, this time of year, you'll find sage emitting sweet fragrances and cactus flowers blooming. Includes major elevation changes and some walking on road shoulders. Type: Mostly dirt trail with some rocky sections. Difficulty level: Medium. We will be passing an off-leash dog park.
WHERE TO MEET: We will meet at the Morley Canyon Dog Park Parking Lot. There is a small parking lot, but you might need to find parking at other sections of Morley Field.
WHEN: Sunday, May 25, 2025 2:00pm
DIFFICULTY: Moderate
DOG-FRIENDLY: Yes, if your dog is on leash at all times, in control, and has no barking or aggressive actions even with other dogs. We will pass an off-leash dog park on the hike.
